Colored Eye Contacts
Contact lenses have been around for many years, but it has only
been in the last couple of decades that colored eye contacts have been available to the general public. Before
that, they were used mostly in the movie industry as part of an actor’s costume. Once the optical supply industry
was assured that colored contacts could be safely used by most people, they jumped on the bandwagon and took
advantage of the potential profits. The public, mostly but not exclusively women, has been intrigued with the idea
of being able to use eye color as an accessory. Contact lenses were no longer just for seeing better; they could
also be like jewelry.
With colored eye contacts, you can change the color of your eyes in a subtle way or
deliberately make a bold-and unusual-statement. Most people opt for somewhere in the subtle range. A person with
brown eyes may purchase colored contacts that change their eyes to a greener shade. Someone with hazel-colored eyes
may want to go bluer. The change can often be so subtle that someone may look at you and know that something is
different, but at first may not be able to quite figure out what that difference is. Like with good cosmetic
surgery, this is the effect that many people are going for when using colored lenses. It should be noted, however,
that the final effect that colored lenses will have on your eyes will depend on your original eye
color.
In the never-ending quest that some people are on to get attention from shocking
others, colored eye contacts have been a new tool for achieving this goal. Some people only step slightly over the
line; changing their eyes to a rare but not impossible color. For instance, only a very small percentage of the
population has violet eyes. This means that the color does get attention, but it isn’t necessarily seen as
freakish. On the other side of the spectrum, you have those who like to change to impossible colors or looks for
maximum shock value or for occasions such as Halloween. This can include changing to such colors as red, white or
yellow, or even changing to something like cat eyes.
As with any contact lenses, whether used to change color or for vision improvement,
there are risks. There are certain people who simply can’t wear them because of eye sensitivity. Those who can wear
them still need to take precautions. All contacts must be manufactured within certain safety guidelines, so you can
feel reasonably safe with colored eye contacts. That being said, if you experience excessive tearing or irritation
in the eye while wearing them, you want to keep them out until you consult with a professional. Even if contacts
have nothing to do with vision correction, it is illegal to sell them without a prescription. This helps to
safeguard consumers against eye injury.
After they became more widely available, the prices started coming down. It’s now
possible to find good quality colored contacts for as little as $25 a pair. Many people purchase their colored
contacts online to save money and time. Well-known and reputable optical supply companies, such as Acuvue®, sell
colored contacts online. It almost goes without saying that if you are ordering your colored eye contacts online,
you want to be sure that you’re buying from a reputable company.
